Description

A robust hardneck variety that came to North America with German Mennonite immigrants over a hundred years ago. It is known for its hardiness and performs extremely well in cold climates and a wide range of soil conditions.

German White produces a tall, impressive plant with dark green leaves. Scape removal and good moisture are important for maximum bulb size. Under ideal conditions, can produce very large bulbs.

The flavour is sweet and consistent with the Porcelain family. Ranges in colour from white to slightly purple depending on the soil and growing conditions. Bulbs are uniform with large cloves (average 4 to 6 cloves/bulb) and can be stored for up to 6 months.

Garlic is a heavy feeder. For best results, apply a well-balanced organic fertilizer at planting and in spring. Planting a green manure cover crop the season before growing garlic is also recommended.
