Description

Crimson Clover is a quick-maturing cover crop that is easily tilled and broken down, producing readily available organic matter. This robust legume fixes 70 - 140lbs of nitrogen per acre (1.5 - 3lbs/1000 sq. ft) and scavenges other nutrients, adding fertility to the soil. It is also very effective at suppressing weeds and providing habitat for pollinators and beneficial insects.

Can be planted as a garden companion, a singular cover crop, or combined with other species to grow a diverse green manure. Crimson Clover was traditionally planted in the fall and tilled back into the soil for improved spring fertility. However, it can be sown nearly any time of year as a rich nitrogen source. Grows as a winter annual in Zone 6 or warmer and as a spring/summer annual for colder climates.

Plants generally bloom in spring regardless of planting date. When used as a cover crop, it is usually mowed or tilled within 7-10 days of blooming as the plants become more fibrous past this point.

Crimson Clover is a restorative cover crop that improves challenging soil conditions, however, it performs best in well-drained soils with moderate fertility.

Can be used with EcoTea Seed Inoculant for increased nutrient efficiency, improved root development and higher disease resistance.
