Description
Classic Turf Mix is the #1 selling lawn grass across Canada and the perfect choice for yards and properties in northern climates. Grows well in both Sun and Shade conditions. It combines three proven turf species, each selected for its performance, appearance and adaptability.
This quality mix is ideal for home lawns or grassed areas on acreages. We regularly use Classic Turf when seeding permanent grass on our farm. It produces a thick, durable lawn that looks great and grows well under a wide range of growing conditions, making it our favourite choice
Includes Kentucky Bluegrass for its rich colour, fine texture and ability to fill in gaps via spreading rhizomes. Creeping Red Fescue for drought resistance, early spring green-up and good shade tolerance, especially under trees. Perennial Ryegrass for fast establishment, acting as a nurse crop as the turf develops and matures.
Classic Turf can be direct-seeded into loose soil or overseeded into existing grassed areas to rejuvenate the turf. Once established, it can quickly repair itself, especially with good fertility and moisture levels.
It is best to plant Classic Turf before or after the hottest summer temperatures, with April to early June or Late August to early October being the most common.
It can also be planted in very late fall, winter or very early spring (temperatures below 10°C) to allow the freeze-thaw cycle to work the seeds into the soil. Once temperatures warm up, the seeds will germinate and begin to grow.
Watering properly is critical to seeding success. Keep the soil thoroughly moist by watering daily until the seeds germinate, then water regularly as needed for the entire first season. Dry conditions during establishment are one of the most common reasons for failure
If annual weeds come up at the same time as the grass, they usually won't cause any issues and can even help protect the young grass seedlings. After about three or four weeks of growth after emergence, the young turf should be carefully mowed to 2" or 3" to keep the weeds under control.
