Description
Easy to grow and popular with both gardeners and cooking enthusiasts, This Italian variety is also known as "Gambino" in certain regions and is the primary garlic found in many kitchens. It is a cold-hardy strain that thrives in Canada's harsh climate and consistently produces firm, healthy bulbs of good size.
Beautiful purple colouring with some white coming through. Has a great full flavour without too much spicy heat. One of the mildest Purple Stripe garlic varieties available which makes it great for eating raw.
As with other Purple Stripes, its plants are medium-sized with slender leaves. Requires scape removal, adequate moisture and good fertility for maximum bulb size.
Bulbs have 8 to 10 cloves and store 6 to 8 months.
Garlic is a heavy feeder. For best results, apply a well-balanced organic fertilizer at planting and in spring. Planting a green manure cover crop the season before growing garlic is also recommended.
