Description

Spring Field Peas are one of the most reliable cool-season legumes for building fertility, producing large amounts of biomass, and improving soil biology. Although often used as a cover crop, the plants, flowers, and seeds are also edible.

Spring Field Peas thrive in early spring conditions, germinating in cool soils and outpacing many weeds. They can handle early-season frosts and are well-suited to Canada's variable spring weather, from coast to coast. They can be grown any time of the season, but perform best before or after the hottest parts of the summer.

The large seeds are easy to plant and emerge from the ground quickly with little effort. Spring Field Peas do very well when mixed with other crops such as Oats, Spring Triticale or Barley. Their fibrous roots enhance soil tilth and add organic matter.

Under good growing conditions, the plants can produce up to 120 lbs of Nitrogen per acre. Much of this fertility is released as the plant material decomposes, helping to feed the next crop. The fibrous root system improves soil tilth, leaving a nice seedbed after tillage.

Can be used with EcoTea Seed Inoculant to increase nutrient efficiency, improve root development, and enhance disease resistance.
